Fisherman’s Wharf Commercial

Fishermans Wharf in Xitaihu, China, draws upon the analogy of rocks and flowing water- with the aesthetics reflecting the characteristics of the nearby West Lake.
The commercial street is like calligraphy strokes dotted with water features, interspersed between the main building and ancillary buildings.
The scheme is comprised of four contiguous zones which inform the circulation, arrangement, and program of the area known as “Mountain”,”Water”, “Hillock” and “Field”.
Water represents the zone comprised of alfresco and fine dining neighbouring vibrant bars and cafes. Small retail areas suitable for food and beverage vendors adjoin the hotel to form the Mountain zone. Hillock is an arrangement of shopping centres and clubs, whilst the field zone is dedicated to a holiday business club occupying the northwest of the development area.
Awnings of the buildings are connected with walking trails, and scenic areas, using traditional Chinese landscaping techniques including the “Step King Garden”. Concepts such as “veins”, “walking gardens” and “calligraphy” feature prominently with meandering scenic trails, and integrated gardens key ideas to the circulation and appreciation of the natural landscape and architecture of the scheme.
